Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the initial consultation?

I provide a free 30-minute consultation.

What is Elder Law?
Elder law is basically estate planning with the focus on long term care planning and how a family will be able to afford long term care without going broke.

What is Aid & Attendance?
Aid & Attendance is a benefit available to veterans and spouses to help compensate the veteran for assistance with his/her activities of daily living. The veteran and/or widow would normally be receiving some type of private pay home health care or living in an Assisted Living Facility. However, the VA does require certain income and assets limits be met.

What are ADL’s?
Assistance with Daily Living. This could include help with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, meal preparation, eating, etc.

What happens if my parent and/or spouse was just admitted to a nursing home?
Don’t feel rushed to sign over everything to the nursing home. Call an elder law attorney to discuss your family’s options

What is involved with planning for long term care?
Planning for long-term care can be a tedious process. Once the initial consultation is completed and the family has hired our firm, we ask the family to complete a worksheet and submit copies of documents. An analysis is then completed, usually within 14 days of receipt of all documentation, to find the right strategy depending on how many assets the family has and wants to protect. A report is then sent to the family and another meeting is scheduled to go over all the options. Once the final decisions are made at that meeting, the appropriate documents/strategies are completed.
